Ilkley Civic Society: Contribution to the townscape of Ilkley through design and sustainability, Design Award
LABC Building Excellence Awards 2010: Finalist, New Dwelling
The project involved providing a sustainable new vicarage as a flagship project for the Diocese of Bradford. The building is sited amongst Victorian and early twentieth century houses within the Ben Rhydding Conservation Area.
There were a number of challenges associated with this project, consisting of building a high-quality yet sustainable new vicarage without disturbing the character of the surrounding properties and in line with the wishes of the church.
These aims were achieved using a number of innovative technologies – incorporating a ground-source heat pump to reduce energy costs, and non-traditional footings to substantially reduce the amount of concrete used, making it both cheaper and more sustainable.
